What you can recycle and where?

When it comes to recycling the possibilities really are endless. At Household Waste Recycling Centres (formerly known as “the tip”) you can recycle a wide range of materials. Items that can be taken to these centres across the district are:-

Automotive recycling icon

  • Used engine oil
  • Car batteries
  • Tyres

 

  • These materials can be recycled at all our recycling centres

 Electrical recycling icon

Electrical

  • Fridges and freezers
  • Batteries
  • Telecoms and computers
  • Small appliances
  • Large appliances
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Low energy bulbs
  • TVs and monitors
  • Mobile phones

 

 

  • Fridges, freezers, other white goods cannot be taken to the South Kirkby recycling site.

 

Garden Waste Icon

Garden Waste

  • Leaves and flowers
  • Grass and weeds
  • Tree bark
  • Pruned branches
  • Clippings and twigs

 

  • These materials can be recycled at all our recycling centres
Glass recycling

  • Bottles and Jars

 

  • These materials can be recycled at all our recycling centres
Metal cans to recycle

  • Aluminium cans
  • Steel cans
  • Aerosols
  • Foil
  • Scrap metal

  • These materials can be recycled at all our recycling centres
Other recyclables

  • Boxed Tapes and discs
  • Records
  • Printer cartridges
  • Gas bottles
  • Wood and timber
  • Bicycles

 

  • Tapes and discs cannot be taken to the Ferrybridge, Fitzwilliam and South Kirkby recycling centres
  • Records can only be taken to the Castleford Recycling Centre
  • Printer cartridges can only be taken to Wakefield Household Recycling Centre
  • Bicycles can only be taken to Wakefield and Castelford Recycling Centres

  • Paint can only be recycled at Ossett and Wakefield but is accepted as household waste everywhere else

  • News and magazines
  • Cardboard
  • Telephone directories
  • Mixed paper & card
  • Corrugated cardboard

  • Books cannot be taken to the Ferrybridge, Fitzwilliam and South Kirkby recycling centres
Plastics

  • These materials can be recycled at all our recycling centres (except South Kirkby)
  • Plastic bags can be recycled at most supermarkets
Mixed Textile Recycling

Textiles

  • Shoes
  • Mixed textiles and clothes
  • Carpets

 

  • Mixed textiles and clothes can only be recycled at Wakefield, Castleford, Ossett and South Elmsall Recycling Centres.
  • Shoes can only be recycled at Wakefield, Fitzwilliam and Ossett Recycling Centre
  • Carpets can only be recycled at Wakefield, Castleford and Ossett Recycling Centres.
