Pesticides

A ban on the sale of 81 garden products came into effect at the end of July 2003.

Pesticide disposal

It is illegal to dispose of garden chemicals or their wastes in drains, sinks or toilets as they can cause harm to human health, wildlife and the environment.

Residents should take their hazardous household and garden chemicals to one our waste recycling centres and tell the operator so it can be disposed of in the hazardous chemical store.
  • Do not dispose of these chemicals in your home bins
  • Only empty and washed chemical containers should ever be disposed of in your normal refuse collection. Washings from products should be used in the garden as directed on the container

Visit the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website for an up to date list of banned and non-authorised pesticides in the United Kingdom.
