Noise from commercial activities

Noise from pubs and clubs

Any noise nuisance complaints about licensed premises will be forwarded to the Licensing Officer for a joint approach to be undertaken.  All licensed premises have a licence which allows them to operate certain activities at approved times with or without conditions.  You can find details for any licensed premises on our Licensing online register.

Noise from construction activities

It is generally accepted that many construction activities will be noisy due to the nature of their work.  However larger sites tend to have a restriction on the hours they work so as to reduce the impact on nearby residents.  These usually are:

  • Monday to Friday - 7.30am until 6pm
  • Saturdays 8.30am until 2.30pm
  • No operation on Sunday’s or Bank Holidays

Contractors need to ensure that they are doing their best to minimise emissions of noise and should follow the guidance given in BS 5228:2009 Code of practice for noise and vibration control on construction and open sites – Part 1: Noise.

Noise from businesses

Please contact us to discuss whether your noise problem can be investigated as a noise nuisance.  For more information follow the link “Dealing with Noise Complaints” which explains what action we can take against businesses who cause a noise nuisance.
