The Wakefield Warm Zone scheme started in January 2008 is now in its latter stages and is scheduled to finish at the end of November 2008.

The deadline for applications under current scheme is 14 November 2008. No applications can be accepted after this date.

Homes in the Warm Zone will have received a letter followed by a Warm Zone card 'woolly hand'. Shortly after this they will have received a visit from a Warm Zone Assessor. The Warm Zone has a dedicated team of Assessors who when they call will carry identification with the Warm Zone logo as shown above. All homes in the target areas of Airedale & Ferry Fryston, Agbrigg & Belle Vue and Kinsley & Fitzwilliam have now been approached. 

The Warm Zone knocks on every door in the target areas and provides households with the opportunity to access:-

• Free insulation
• Benefit checks
• Fire safety advice
• Debt advice
• Carers assistance
• Security advice - (WDH properties only)

The Wakefield scheme will offer FREE cavity wall and loft insulation to most households. Suitable access to the loft space is required for loft insulation.

The Warm Zone has targeted around 11,000 properties in the three area's during this pilot phase.

Warm Zone has been made possible by a successful consortium bid to the Community Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF), funded by DEFRA. The bid was a joint application with Bradford and Calderdale Councils.

Early indications are that the scheme has been a great success with hundreds of households accessing extra services and free home insulation.  Investigations are now taking place to see whether the scheme can be rolled out in other areas of the District in 2009, so watch this space!
