Wakefield Low Carbon Communities

*The 2010-11 scheme has now started in Knottingley, Wakefield West and South Elmsall & South Kirkby wards*

The Wakefield Low Carbon Communities scheme has been developed to deliver real home energy efficiency improvements and other well bring assistance to residents across the District.

Lead by Wakefield Council, Wakefield Low Carbon Communities is delivered in partnership with Wakefield and District Housing (WDH), Scottish Power, Wakefield Council Welfare Rights and Mortgage Assistance Teams, Carers Wakefield & District, West Yorkshire Fire Service, Yorkshire Energy Services and Homecare Insulation.

The way the scheme works is that every household is door knocked by a trained Assessor in the target wards to complete a short questionnaire. This is then used to refer households for energy grants as well as other services such as benefit checks, fire safety visits and carers support. These visits will continue until December 2010 so don't worry if you don't receive a visit straight away.

Alternatively, householders can take part in the scheme by ringing the number below and answering a few questions over the phone instead of waiting for a home visit.

As part of the project every owner occupied and private rented household, regardless of income or circumstance will be able to access free cavity wall and/or loft insulation!
