CCTV Control RoomWakefield Council’s has a new state-of-the-art CCTV headquarters based in Pontefract with a purpose built facility housing the very latest in CCTV technology.

There are 166 cameras, located across Wakefield, Pontefract, Castleford, Ossett, Featherstone, South Elmsall and Hemsworth, which are all monitored from the control room in Pontefract. 

The multifunctional ‘black wall’ display is capable of displaying up to 166 separate images or any variation in size and display configuration. The new systems enable real time digital recording – all the time, with instant review and playback in the control room or to a police station.

From the new Pontefract base the CCTV team provides support to the police with the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system which can tell police officers within seconds whether a vehicle has been stolen, is untaxed or has been used in a crime.
