A microchip is recommended as the most effective and easy way of identifying your pet if it become lost or stolen.

How does microchipping work?

Your pet will have a tiny microchip - the size of a grain of rice - painlessly inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades.

Each microchip has its own unique code number which is linked to the national PetLog database with your contact details.

When dog wardens, vets and rescue organisations they come across a lost pet they will check for the microchip using a scanner which can read the microchip's details.

A collar and identification tag is still required to be worn. By law all dogs have to wear a collar with a tag showing its owner's name and address.
