In order to assess the air quality it is vital that accurate and effective monitoring data is available. It not only demonstrates compliance (or not) with the prescribed air quality objectives, but allows a check on development that could increase air pollution.
The Airwake network includes 8 continuous monitoring stations. 7 sites are currently in operation. The Knottingley site has ceased monitoring because of vandalism.

Screening Monitoring
The Council has been using passive screening monitoring for nitrogen dioxide since the 1990’s and currently operates around 100 locations throughout the district. These locations represent the nearest property to a major road.
