Air Quality Reports

The air quality management process requires a series of reports to be produced describing the review and assessment outcomes. The process is repeated every three years and currently timetabled to 2017.

  • 1st Round Air Quality Review and Assessment reports – (2000-2002)
The outcome of the first round found that the main pollutant of concern is nitrogen dioxide mainly from road traffic. Two areas were declared as exceeding the annual mean nitrogen dioxide objective – the M1 AQMA and the A1 AQMA.

  • 2nd Round Air Quality Review and Assessment reports – (2003-2004)
Further exceedences of both the nitrogen dioxide objectives were established in the district. This led to two further AQMA’s - the M62 AQMA and the Wakefield City AQMA. Amendments were made to the M1 and A1 AQMA;s to accommodate an extended area of exceedence.

  • 3rd Round Air Quality Review and Assessment Reports (2006-2007)
Four further AQMA’s were declared for exceedence of nitrogen dioxide objectives: Castleford, Featherstone and Pontefract AQMA’s. A draft air quality Action Plan was produced for consultation.

  • 4th Round Air Quality Review and Assessment Reports (2009-11)
A further AQMA was declared covering Ackworth. A final Action Plan was published and is now subject to a revision.
