Our Communities Team investigates air pollution complaints and, if appropriate, undertake formal action in the event of justified complaints of “statutory nuisance” under Part 3 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
A statutory nuisance can include emissions of smoke, fumes or gases from domestic premises plus dust, steam, smell or other emissions from commercial premises. We cannot however deal with complaints of cooking smells arising from domestic properties.
Typical complaints we deal with are smoke from garden bonfires, dust from building and demolition activities and cooking smells from restaurants and takeaways.
Our Team deal with over 1000 air pollution complaints in a year find details below of typical types of complaints we can investigate.
