How to dispose of an unwanted vehicle

It is the responsibility of every vehicle owner to ensure that their vehicle is disposed of responsibly when it is no longer required. Please see www.recycleyourcar.co.uk or call 0808 20 200 66 to find your nearest authorised vehicle dismantler who will usually provide this service free of charge.

An abandoned vehicle is a serious fire hazard. All vehicles contain substantial amounts of flammable liquids for fuels, electrical and mechanical systems which aid easy ignition. The vehicle body itself can act as fuel to a fire.

When a vehicle burns, it emits a combination of toxic compounds into the atmosphere, which contribute to such problems as global warming. There is also a high risk that if a vehicle is set alight, the fire can spread to nearby properties, posing a potentially lethal risk to local residents.

Safe disposal is not only environmentally friendly but it also eliminates the risk of injury or fatality caused by abandoning vehicles.
