The Young People's Service

As a young person becoming involved in Wakefield Young Peoples Service you can expect:

  • To have opportunities to meet with your friends and other young people of your own age in a variety of meeting places which are safe, within a reasonable travelling distance of your home and where you can relax and have fun.

  • To have access to trained and committed Youth Workers who will take time to listen to you,  who will challenge without judging and who will offer initial help to start you off on projects or on the occasions when things might be going wrong for you, when you are distressed, in trouble or at risk.

  • To be offered activities that may be new to you, which challenge and stretch you and which on completion you will have gained choices about your action and your life.

  • To have access to information through which you can make informed choices about your life.

  • To be able to participate in the fullest sense.  The Youth Worker will encourage you to be actively involved in planning and carrying out activities, within the limits laid down by the organisation and its resources, the balance of power will be tipped in your favour, in order that you can feel a total part of everything that is going on.

  • To have every opportunity to express your opinions and have your views heard.  Occasionally you may want Youth Workers to express these views on your behalf, in which case you can expect this to be done accurately.

  • To be accepted as the individual young person you are and to be treated equally.  You can expect Youth Workers to help you accept or overcome your limitations, to acknowledge and not condemn your differences, and to strive to promote understanding and tolerance between people.
