Wakefield provides a range of resources and services which extend the curriculum and promote teacher and student development.

In-service course at Woolley Hall
Courses covering the whole curriculum, together with topics such as assessment, the Foundation stage, special needs and school management and ICT applications. Woolley Hall is Wakefield's main in-service centre, a 17th century mansion with specialist conference facilities set in 20 acres of gardens.
School Library Service
Offering specialist advice on children's books, a loan service for both books and sound and vision, INSET work and support for the literacy initiative.
Clarke Hall
An educational museum set in a 17th century yeoman farmer's house, where children in costume enjoy a typical day in the life of the original owners. Clarke Hall has just attracted a Heritage Lottery Fund grant and now has new visitor facilities and exhibition space.
Hornsea Outdoor Centre
Wakefield's outdoor education centre on the east coast, ideal for Primary school residential visits and environmental studies.
Wakefield Music Service
Offering tuition to nearly 3000 children age 7+, and providing six weekend music centres, and District-wide choral and instrumental ensembles.
Other major services support teachers and pupils including the recently refurbished Wakefield and Pontefract Museums; the Art Gallery, with its remarkable collection of contemporary art; the National Coal Mining Museum, offering unique insights into the District's social history; and the Youth Service which supports pastoral work and guidance in many High Schools; and Adult Education promoting community and family education initiatives.
