Wakefield Education Service
All our Services contribute to fulfilling the LEA's mission which is:
"To work with its partners to create a culture inwhich Education is sought and valued; where high expectations of pupils and stidents and high standards of achievement become the norm; and where Education promotes inidvidual and community development and contributes to Wakefield's regeneration."
Wakefield has 128 primary and 18 high schools (five with sixth forms), together with 3 nursery schools, 6 special schools and 2 pupil referral units.
Altogether, we serve the needs of over 50,000 children. Further Education in Wakefield is currently provided by Wakefield College, New College, Pontefract (a sixth form college) and the Adult and Community Education Service.
The Library Service operates 28 branch libraries, a school library service, mobile libraries and a local studies collection.
The Young People's Service is a key part of wider education provision; and the authority operates a large and growing Music Service.
