Beliefs and Principles
Wakefield LEA believes..
- That Education has the power to change lives for the better
- That Education should challenge pupils and students; lead them to higher levels of knowledge, skill and achievement; give them an awareness of the potential inherent in each individual
- That the open dissemination of information is important to both Education and democratic citizenship
- That Education is a lifelong process and that opportunities for learning should be available to all age groups
- That an effective Education Service underpins the quality of life of the whole of the Wakefield District
We shall put our belief and our Mission into practice by working to five key principles:
Quality of Service
The LEA will ensure that the service it provides are of high quality. It undertakes to promote quality in its shared work with schools and with other services. It will encourage high expectations of its staff and of students. it will direct its work towards raising achievement an standards of provision, thereby promoting public confidence in, and support for, the local Education Service.
Comprehensive Provision
The LEA understands that Education does not begin and end with the period of compulsory schooling; that schools themselves need a range of effective support services to enhance their work; and that local people, of all ages, need access to a variety of formal and informal educational provision, whether provided directly by the LEA or by other agencies.
Coherent Planning
The LEA affirms the importance coherent planning and service review to maintain the adequacy, sufficiency and relevance of the provision it makes for schools, pupils and students and the wider community.
Partnerships
The LEA commits itself to forming and maintaining effective and enduring partnerships, with schools and parents and with other agencies that will enable it to fulfil its beliefs and achieve its mission.
Equality of Opportunity
The LEA asserts the entitlement of all pupils and students to a good education, irrespective of social circumstances, class, gender, race or disability; and will seek to direct extra support to those who need it to benefit from the opportunities available or to redress disadvantage.
