National Challenge Support Programme

Within the Wakefield District, Featherstone Technology College, Knottingley High School and Sports College and The Cathedral CE High School are to benefit from additional support from the government’s National Challenge Programme. This year these schools exceeded the National Challenge target of 30% of pupils achieving 5+ A*-C including English and Maths.

A total of £316,000 has been made available to provide a range of support across the schools to build on this success. This includes the use of a National Challenge Adviser (30 days), a National Leader of Education and funding for initiatives to support Literacy, Numeracy, English as an Additional Language and Parental Engagement. The schools will be expected to continue to make progress, particularly with respect to the proportion of students achieving 5+A* to C including English and Maths.
