Combined, these offer a full day's activities for primary aged children, but Beverely Minster, with careful planning, can provide enough variety for a full day's activities.

Beverley MinsterBeverley Minster

Beverley Minster can provide a great resource for many National Curriculum topics within subjects like history, art and design, RE and music. For example:

  • History: Anglo-Saxons, Britain 1066-1500, monks, saints, monarchs.
  • Art and design: medieval architecture, sculpture in wood and stone, stained glass, contemporary art.
  • RE: a Christian place of worship, symbolism, pilgrimage, monks, saints.
  • Music: medieval minstrels and plainsong, the organ, performing and composing

Bring these topics to life by arranging an educational visit where a guide will be pleased to give you a tour.

Skidby Windmill

The windmill is Yorkshire's last working windmill, built in 1821 by Norman and Skidby WindmillSmithson of Hull. The adjacent warehouses form the Museum of East Riding Rural Life, with displays illustrating the agricultural and rural history of the area, and including a range of simple child-friendly interactive exhibits.

Childrens' trails and information sheets are available free from reception and there are information sheets in both galleries and in the mill tower. The mill has an Education Room, which is also available for hire for meetings (£10 for ERYC, £12 for other users.) School visits are welcomed, and a Teachers' Pack and other resources are available.
