Wakefield Association of School Governors (WASG)

The Wakefield Association of School Governors is an association of governing bodies of schools within Wakefield Local Authority and was formed in September 2001.  

It is a member of the National Governors' Council (NGC) which is the national body representing associations of governing bodies.

The Association is independent of Wakefield Local Authority but does receive administrative support from it.

Background

The Wakefield Association of School Governors is an association of governing bodies of schools within Wakefield Local Authority.

The Association was formed in September 2001.  Currently, 98 of the 153 governing bodies in the Local Authority are members.

The Association is a member of the National Governors’ Council (NGC) which is the national body representing associations of governing bodies.

The Association is independent of Wakefield Local Authority but does receive administrative support from it.

Aims and Objectives of the Association

  • To be an independent association of governors with no political affiliation.
  • To assist and encourage co-operation between governing bodies and between schools to further the interests of children in our schools.
  • To provide a vehicle for consultation with and expressing collective views of governing bodies who are members of the Association.
  • To further good relationships with the Local Authority and other relevant bodies including other Associations of Governing Bodies.
  • To act collectively to protect the integrity of education in the authority and within the Association’s membership.
  • To further governors’ interests nationally through membership of the National Governors’ Council.
