How can I find out if a school is over-subscribed?

The ‘Guide for Parents’ shows how many places are available at each school (the Annual Admission Number) and the number of places offered last year. For schools that were over-subscribed it will also show the size of their waiting list and the number of appeals for places.

When deciding which schools to apply for, you should consider:

  • How many applied for your preferred schools last year?
  • How were the places allocated at your preferred schools last year?
  • If your preferred schools are over-subscribed this year, how likely are you to get a place?
  • How many are on the waiting list?

In the Wakefield district, Voluntary Aided schools owned by the Catholic Church or Church of England use their own over-subscription criteria. All other schools (Community, Foundation or Voluntary Controlled) use Wakefield Council’s over-subscription criteria.

The over-subscription criteria for all schools can be found in ‘Related Links’.
