What if I don’t get a place at the school I wanted?

If you have been refused a place at the school you wanted, you will be added to their waiting list. Your place on the list will be based on the school’s over-subscription criteria, regardless of whether or not your application was made on time.

Be aware that your position on the waiting list is not set – if further applications are received or places become available, you could move up or down the list.

You also have the right to appeal against the decision to refuse you a place. Just submitting an appeal will not affect your place on the waiting list for any school. You can appeal even if you have accepted the offer of a place at another school.

When you receive the offer of a place at anywhere other than your first preference school, you will also receive an appeal form. Additional copies are available from the School Admission Team – click on their link in ‘Related Links’ for contact details.

The appeal form should be completed and returned before the stated deadline to ensure that your appeal is heard at the same time as any other appeals for the same school. However, you can submit your form at any time, as there is no statutory time limit for the submission of an appeal.

Preparing for an appeal can be a complicated task, so if you would like information, guidance and support, call us on 0800 587 8042 or click on ‘How do I get in touch with the Choice Adviser?’ for more contact details.
