Cathedral School can be defined in many ways; we are the only Church of England secondary school in Wakefield, we are a community school, a multicultural school and a specialist arts college.  Cathedral School is also part of the Cathedral Pyramid of schools and as such we have excellent relationships and work very closely in collaboration with our partner primary schools.

We are a very successful school with results that, year on year, have improved rapidly across the whole of our broad curriculum.  We are committed to providing the highest standards of care and educational opportunity for our students and our success in this has been recognised recently by independent national inspection teams.

Cathedral School is judged by Ofsted to be “a good school with outstanding features” (Ofsted inspection March 2010).

Cathedral School is judged by the National Society: Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools as “Outstanding in all categories” (SIAS inspection June 2010).

Cathedral School is identified as an 11-16 school but we also have a post 16 Performing Arts Academy of approximately 50 students, known as the Cathedral Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA).  CAPA students consistently achieve outstanding results.  In performing arts, the excellent academic success is paralleled by exciting performance beyond school.  This year, for example, our students have performed at The Royal Albert Hall, won the UK Street Dance Championship (cat2) at the O2 Stadium, won the prestigious Rock Challenge dance competition and performed for the benefit of many other schools and venues.  The excellent levels of attainment in performing arts are helped both by our strong local, national and international partnerships as well as through the work of resident professional dance and theatre companies.  As a result of this strong foundation our students routinely go on to further education in some of the country’s most prestigious conservatories including The Rambert School, The Northern School of Contemporary Dance, The Urdang Academy and various universities and colleges.

The school has achieved the Sportsmark and Artsmark Gold awards.

Cathedral School is set in modern, purpose built buildings with excellent facilities.  These have been upgraded by multimillion pound refurbishments to include state of the art dance and drama facilities with newly appointed conferencing and performance space.  The school is well served by extensive use of I.C.T.  including 6 full sized computer suites and many smaller clusters of computers.  We also have a wireless network which allows students to work from school laptops in ordinary classrooms.

Our mission statement is Believe, Achieve, Succeed: Together we aspire towards world class standards and the best outcomes for our students.  At our school, there is constant challenge and support of each other in a caring, happy community.  We celebrate our success and constantly strive towards excellence.  Please contact us if you wish to know more about our vision for the future or look on our website at www.cathedralschool.org.uk
