Admissions Policies

On this page you will find details of the polices for the admission of pupils to Schools and Academies in the Wakefield District.

Community/Voluntary Controlled Admission Policy

The Local Authority (LA) is the admission authority for all Community/Voluntary Controlled schools in Wakefield. You can view the admissions policy for these schools under Downloads, together with their proposed admission number.

These documents give details of the agreed Admission Policies for 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 and the proposed Admission Policy for 2013/2014.

The proposed Admission Policy for 2013/2014 has been determined subject to final approval by Cabinet.

Voluntary Aided Schools

The Governing Body is responsible for admissions at Voluntary Aided schools. Details of the admissions policies for voluntary aided schools are available directly from the school. They can also be viewed under Downloads.

Foundation (Trust Schools)

These schools are their own Admissions Authority and the Governing Body sets their admissions policy.

The Governing Body of the remaining Aspire Trust schools (Horbury School) has agreed to adopt the LA’s admissions policy for Community/Voluntary Controlled schools under Downloads.

The following schools which form part of the Education Ossett Community Trust have not adopted the LA’s admissions policy for 2012/2013 and 2013/2014:

Flushdyke JI School
Towngate JI School
Southdale Junior School

Academies

These schools are their own Admission Authority and the Governing Body sets their admissions policy.

The respective Governing Bodies of the following academies within the Wakefield District have agreed to adopt the LA’s admission policy for 2012/2013 and its proposed admissions policy for 2013/2014 and have instead adopted the Education Ossett Community Trust policy:

Wakefield City Academy
Horbury Bridge CE (VC) J&I Academy

The respective Governing Bodies of the following academies within the Wakefield District have not adopted the LA’s admission policy for 2012/2013 and 2013/2014

Ossett Academy
Gawthorpe Academy
South Ossett Infants’ Academy

Co-ordinated Admissions Policies (2011/2012, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 academic year)

These documents give details of the co-ordinated admission schemes for Wakefield. These policies allow the Local Authority to co-ordinate admissions across the district.

Wakefield Council is the Admissions Authority for all community and voluntary controlled primary and secondary schools. The admissions arrangements have been determined subject to final approval by Cabinet and the polices can be found under Downloads.

Fair Access Protocol

To comply with legislation Wakefield Council has a Fair Access Protocol with all the schools in the Wakefield district. This means that, in some circumstances, pupils defined in the Protocol will have a higher priority for admission than all other pupils seeking admission to that school.
