Nursery education for 3 and 4 year olds

Picture of babies on the floor and childminder. For babies and young children being special to someone and cared for is vital for their physical, social and emotional health and well being: Birth to Three Matters Framework.A free part time nursery education place for all 3 and 4 year olds is guaranteed for all parents who require one.

Nursery School and Classes
Nursery schools and nursery classes provide early education and childcare for children between three and five years old (some will take children from two-and-a-half).

Some schools and classes are part of the state education system, others are run by private or voluntary sector organisations.  They charge fees, which vary across the country.  Nursery schools are open during school hours, usually 9.00 am to 3.30 pm in term-time for full or half-day sessions.  Many have extended their provision to include daycare for working parents.

Your child should experience learning and development activities suitable for their age, which are based on the Birth to Three Framework and the Foundation Stage.

Some may also offer out-of-school care before or after school during term time and in the school holidays.

For more information on nursery schools and classes you can contact the Wakefield District Families Information Service on 0800 587 8042 or visit their website (see 'Features').
