Becoming a childminder

Can you imagine a job that makes a real difference to a child’s life, a job that you can do in your own home, around your commitments? Does this sound too good to be true? Well you can have all this, and be your own boss, by becoming a registered childminder.

What is a childminder?

A registered childminder:

  • looks after up to six children under eight years old for more than two hours a day on domestic premises (normally their home) for reward
  • is both registered and inspected by Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education)
  • is self employed, runs their own business and provides a service for families whose children they care for
  • is a childcare practioner, working in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
