There's a wide range of opportunities to work with children and young people at different levels, you have to decide which is best for you.  You could work with children or young people up to 14 years (16 with special needs).  You could work anything from a few hours a week to more regular part-time or full-time employment, working for someone else, or even setting up your own business, for example, a nursery or after school club.

Example of careers available include:

Entry level:

  • Baby sitter
  • Toddler Group Worker
  • Volunteer in any childcare/early years setting

Assistant level:

  • Adventure Play Worker
  • Crèche Assistant
  • Family Centre Worker
  • Nursery Assistant
  • Playwork Assistant
  • Pre-school Assistant
  • Toy Library Worker

Supervisor level:

  • Childminder
  • Crèche Supervisor
  • Family Centre Worker
  • Nanny
  • Nursery Nurse
  • Play Leader
  • Pre-school Leader
  • Special Needs Worker

Managerial level:

  • Advanced Practitioner
  • Childcare Co-ordinator
  • Development Worker
  • Manager
