Cycle rides - from 5 miles to 20 miles

Countryside tunnelIf you are looking for ideas of where to cycle we have put together a series of rides across the Wakefield district

There are 14 rides to choose from; starting with easy going shorter routes of about 5 miles (8km), to a more challenging 20 mile (32km) ride. 

Each leaflet has a clear map with direction notes to follow.  Many of the routes have sections on and off road, following traffic free cycle paths where ever possible.

  5. Walton and Wintersett: Sandal and Agbrigg Station to Anglers Country Park
  6. Parks and Villages: Circular ride from Pugneys Country Park to Notton, Ryhill and Walton
  7. Glasshoughton and Pontefract Park: Circular ride from Xscape
  8. Ossett, Wrenthorpe and Kirkhamgate: Circular ride in the district’s north west
  9. Woolley and Notton: Woolley Village circular
  10. SESKU and Badsworth: Village circular in the district’s south east
  11. Newmillerdam: Cycle route through Newmillerdam Country Park
  12. Darrington to Knottingley and Pontefract: Circular ride around the north east of the district
  13. Stanley Ferry and Carr Gate: Circular ride covering part of the ‘Tour of Wakefield’
  14. Castleford and Fryston: A circuit around Castleford mainly on quiet roads
