Sports Coach UK Awards

(Formerly National Coaching Foundation)
Sports Coach UK organises a wide variety of generic Coach Education courses at various standards for coaches and teachers. These courses are designed to compliment and update the coaching awards of governing bodies, to fit in with national vocational qualifications (NVQ's). The courses further the general development of coaches.

Analyse Your Coaching (3 hour workshop)

Discover the methods of analysing your own coaching performance and identify areas for development.  Learn how to develop and implement an action plan to enhance your coaching.

Coaching + The Law (3 hour workshop)

Sport is played in a world with an increasing tendency for litigation, under a media spotlight brighter than ever before.  A specially trained tutor delivers this comprehensive workshop and addresses the legal aspects of coaching in a non-alarmist way providing a wealth of practical experience.

Coaching Methods + Communication (3 hour workshop)

Unlock and develop your communication skills to build and maintain a positive and effective coach/player relationship.  Learn the principles of good communication and coaching styles and how to use them to meet the needs of your performers.

Core Stability Training (3 hour workshop)

This workshop raises awareness of the importance of core stability which is vital to optimising sports performance, playing longevity and reducing the risk of injury.  The emphasis is on outlining how basic postural and core stability assessments can help raise awareness of potential problems relating to power generation from the hips and efficiency from each muscular effort.

Developing Power + Speed (3 hour workshop)

This interactive workshop includes tips to develop power, straight line and lateral sport-specific speed, acceleration and agility for coaches of multiple sprint sports such as rugby, tennis and netball.  The emphasis is on outlining how general and sport specific conditioning can be used to assist the performer to develop an essential component of their game.

Equity in Your Coaching (3 hour workshop)

Everyone should have access to sport, regardless of gender, age, race, ability, faith or sexual orientation.

As a coach, you have an important role to play in ensuring this happens.  The workshop will help you to apply and extend your existing skills to meet the needs of present and potential participants.

Field Based Fitness (3 hour workshop)

Find out how to identify suitable field based tests, conduct them in the correct way and at the right times to provide meaningful information to assess the effectiveness of the training programme and plan for the future.

Fundamentals (3 hour workshop)

This practical workshop explores the concepts of agility, balance, co-ordination and speed.  It complements other coach education resources, whcih may focus on the movement skills of running, hopping, skipping etc.  This workshop assists coaches to observe, analyse and coach good movement patterns within their sessions whether multiskill or sports specific.

Safeguarding + Protecting Children (3 hour workshop)

Protecting yourself, the young people you are coaching and your employer by understanding and following good coaching practice.  Learn about child abuse and how to handle situations if you have concerns.

Guide to Mentoring Sports Coaches (3 hour workshop)

Mentoring is a powerful tool in educting and developing sports coaches at all levels. This workshop will help you as a mentor to support coaches' learning and focus on how it occurs.

This workshop will help you, the coach to:

  • Identify your role as a mentor
  • Develop your mentoring profile
  • Improve mentoring relationships by developing practical mentoring skills
  • Design a mentoring programme that suits the need of your sport and coaching level.

How to Coach Disabled People In Sport (2 hour workshop)

Want to increase the opportunities for disabled people to participate in sport?  As a coach you should identify the needs of individuals and have the confidence to modify your coaching to meet these needs.

Injury Prevention + Management (3 hour workshop)

Learn about what injuries occur and how to prevent them.  Find out the best way to deal with them if they do happen and how to help players return to training quickly but safely.

Long Term Athlete Development L.T.A.D. (3 hour workshop)

The L.T.A.D. approach was designed to help prepare players to reach elite levels, but it is equally valid for healthy lifelong participation in sport.  It is aimed at coaches to enable them to understand the key concepts of L.T.A.D. and what it means to them and their practice.

Motivation + Mental Toughness (3 hour workshop)

Find out more about your performance and learn positive ways to help them commit to training and perform better in competition.  Learn how to set goals effectively and build confidence and concentration training in your everyday practice.
