Sports Development Service

Sports and Active Lifestyles works closely with many partners to provide a co-ordinated sports development service to encourage people in the community to participate and to develop their skills in sport. The unit works to:-

  • Improve the physical, social and mental well-being of individuals and the community as a whole.
  • Promote social inclusion.
  • Foster lifelong learning.
  • Provide opportunities for individuals to develop teamwork values and skills.
  • Offer opportunities for enjoyable use of leisure time for both individuals and groups.

The unit is involved in various programmes in the following areas:

  • School Sport
  • Sports Specific Development
  • Coach Education
  • Community Recreation and Physical Activity(includes the Active England Programme)
  • Club and Volunteer Development
  • Funding advice
  • Golf and Sport in the district's Parks
  • Development of Sport on playing fields and recreation grounds

Clubs And Volunteers
Development of community sports clubs, and identifying potential new volunteers to work within local sport in the district.
Community Coach Education Programme
A wide variety of courses are available to encourage people with little or no experience to take the first steps to helping develop sport and recreation in their own community.
Physical Activity
Developing opportunities that will benefit peoples all round health, fitness and wellbeing. With an aim to educate, motivate and assist people to live a healthier active lifestyle than at present.
Sports Funding
Details of funding available for sports and recreation development projects, including grants available for teams and individuals.
Tackling Regeneration through Sport and Recreation
Using sport and physical activity to assist with the regeneration of areas of the district suffering multiple deprivation
Youth Sport
The Youth Sport Team works towards increasing access to and participation in sport and recreation for young people.
