Organising an Event

Thornes Park bonfire and firework displayWakefield Council welcomes applications from any organisation wishing to hold an event, however small.

In the past, we have had applications from community groups, sports clubs, charitable organisations and national and local companies who have used parks to hold corporate days, galas and other events.

How to apply

Application forms, along with terms and conditions, are available in 'Downloads' or by contacting us (see Contact Town Parks Events).

Please ensure:-

  • Application forms are submitted no less than two months prior to the event date.
  • A risk assessment should be carried out by the organiser and submitted along with a site plan of the proposed event. Guidance on risk assessments is available under 'Downloads'.
  • As an event organiser you have current public liability cover for the event and it should be at least one million pounds and possibly more for large commercial events.

We charge a minimal administration fee for non-profit making events that are organised for fund raising i.e. charities, sports clubs etc. For events taking place before 1 April 2011 an admin fee of £34 is applicable and for events taking place from the 1 April 2011 an admin fee of £36 is applicable.

Commercial and profit making events are assessed individually and the charges vary, taking into account the duration of the event, any extra facilities required and the expected attendance to the event.

When an application is received, it is circulated to various departments of the council for approval/comments, when this has been received a licence may be issued.

If you are interested in holding an event you can contact us for further information.
