Fun Fairs and Circuses

Fun fairs and circuses operate throughout the district on council land and private land. The Council has byelaws for fun fairs and they can be requested by contacting the Events Office (see Contact Town Parks Events details).

Fun Fair or Circus on Council Land

Operators should submit their application (see Organising an Event) no less than two months prior to the proposed date. Copies of the application will be sent to the Land Manager and Building Control (internal departments of the Council).

For new sites, operators should submit their application three months prior to the proposed date this is to enable extended consultations. Copies of the application will be sent to the Land Manager and Building Control. Further consultations will be undertaken with Local Elected Members.

Once the consultation process is complete and satisfactory comments have been received a licence will be issued to the Operator. The Council will notify the Police and Fire Service that the fun fair/circus is taking place.

Fun Fair or Circus on Non-Council Land

Operators who wish to hold a fun fair or circus on non-council land should gain permission from the land owner. The operator has to inform the Council at least five working days prior to the opening of the fair or circus by completing the Notice of Intention to hold a Pleasure Fair or Circus on Non-Council Land Form (see 'Downloads'). The completed form can be returned to the address on the form.

Copies of the Notice of Intent Form are forwarded to the Council's Building Control Department. Copies are also sent to The Police and Fire Service.
