Wakefield Council has managed the woodland since 1991, with the aim of benefiting both the visiting public and the woodland's resident wildlife.
The Friends of Haw Park Wood was formed in 2006 to play a significant role in the preservation and enhancement of the woodland. Details of their website are available under 'Related Links'.
A long-term programme of woodland management has been introduced to secure the future of the woodland. Haw Park Wood Management Plan 2007-2012 is available under 'Downloads'.
It sets out a vision for the woodlands future and for its management and maintenance. Work will balance the needs of wildlife and people and will enhance the recreational and educational properties of the wood which will gradually be restored back to predominantly native tree species.
