Anglers Country Park, Wintersett is a 64 hectare country park located 4 miles south east of Wakefield. It is dominated by a lake, surrounded by grassland, woodland and a wetland area known as the ‘Pol’.
This site once formed one of the deepest opencast coal mines in the country reaching a depth of 250 feet. Since the opening of the park in 1986, it has become one of the most important inland bird sites in Yorkshire and the lake is designated a Site of Scientific Interest for its migratory birds.
