Two by Two

The Noah’s Ark in this exhibition is probably between 75 and 150 years oWooden animals and figures from Noah's Arkld.

For the last 40 years it has been looked after by Wakefield’s museum service.

Toy arks have been popular children’s toys for many years.

This ark and the animals are made from wood. There are 265 pieces, including the ark itself and the people.

The story of the ark comes from the book of Genesis in the Bible.

It says that during a flood that covered the earth, God asked Noah to build a big boat.  Noah took two of each animal onto the ark with him and his family so that all types of animal could survive.

Activities

Activities available in the library include jigsaws and card games.

Children at the crèche at Kinsley and Fitzwilliam Community Resource Centre are working with a community artist in Spring 2006 to make puppets, masks and costumes inspired by the animals on the ark. They might even transform their crèche into an ark!
