The collector and maker of this dolls’ house furniture grew up in Sheffield in the 1940s.
The house is based on her childhood home. The people in the house are based on John and Audrey, childhood friends of the collector.
It was made over five years as a retirement hobby, costing over £1000.
Activities
In Normanton children made fantasy bedrooms out of shoes boxes, and Normanton All Saints Infant School children investigated toys from the 1940s and 1950s.
At Featherstone and Havercroft people handled domestic objects like the ones in the dolls’ house, and at Knottingley library visitors commemorated the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two by looking at wartime newspapers, documents and objects and by tucking into cakes made to ration recipes.
