Over the last 100 years photographic technology has become accessible to most people. Cameras like the ones in the exhibition have captured the birthdays, weddings, parties and holidays of local people during this time.
This exhibition was put together with help from Normanton Camera Club.
Activities
John Whitaker, Curator of Social History, gave a talk called From Glass Plates to Camera Phones: a Social History of Photography, using examples from Wakefield’s museum collections.
Tim Burge, Collections Registrar, ran a workshop called Out of the Shoebox: Using Photographs as Historical Evidence, giving people tips on how to get information from photographs.
