For thousands of years, people have worn shoes made from plaited papyrus, rawhide, leather, plastic, rubber and now sophisticated foams.
Some people choose footwear to make a statement about fashion or status. Others select a pair to protect their feet or to wear for a particular activity.
This exhibition is a small selection of shoes collected and cared for on the behalf of the people of Wakefield by the museum service. The shoes are of a variety of styles, ages, materials and uses.
Dates: Knottingley Library from March to June and Normanton Library from June to September 2006.
