All Tied Up

‘A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life’  Oscar Wilde

Some of the ties in this exhibition are from Wakefield’s museum collections and others were loaned by people in Featherstone.

The ties from the museum collection were mostly from the Station Lane drapery shop of Miss Cliffe. They were acquired by the museum service in 1970.

Activities

Children from Girnhill Infant School and North Featherstone All Saints Junior School designed ties for their town. They were inspired by the shops, park, library and local people. Their designs were displayed alongside the exhibition.

Key Stage 3 students from Featherstone High School spent the day at Featherstone Rovers Rugby League Football Club with a community artist.

They walked around the club and town sketching things that they felt were important to Featherstone. They used their sketches to design and make silk ties.

Dates: Featherstone Library from June – September 2005.
