The parish church of All Saints became Wakefield Cathedral in 1888. An extension was built in memory of the first Bishop of Wakefield, Bishop Walsham How who died in 1897.
Foundation stone for the new extension laid in 1901
The inscription reads "This stone was laid in memory of the first Bishop of Wakefield by Frederick Archbishop of Canterbury, June 18 1901."
