This unusual Museum of Mental Health depicts the story of the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum built in 1818.
The exhibition includes restraining equipment, a padded cell, photographs dating from 1862 plus medical and surgical equipment and documents.
There is also a scale model of the original 1818 building built by a former curator of the museum based on the original plans and drawings.
- The museum is open each Wednesday, from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Entrance is free.
- There are adequate wheel chair facilities and adjacent free parking.
