This unusual Museum of Mental Health depicts the story of the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum built in 1818.

The exhibition includes restraining equipment, a padded cell, photographs dating from 1862 plus medical and surgical equipment and documents.

There is also a scale model of the original 1818 building built by a former curator of the museum based on the original plans and drawings.

The museum is open each Wednesday, from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Entrance is free.

There are adequate wheel chair facilities and adjacent free parking.

It is recommended that visitors contact the curator by telephoning 01924 328654 before visiting. Groups are welcome and talks can be arranged
