Wakefield Market food hall - thousands of shoppers served a tasty treat by traders

Wakefield Food Hall
Union Street
Wakefield
WF1 3AD

Open: Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm

No descriptionThe opening day (31 July) of Wakefield Food Hall was a great success for everybody involved with traders kept busy throughout the day and shoppers entertained with a cookery demonstration and live music, performed by students from Leeds College of Music.

We hope that the lively atmosphere on day one will continue to grow in the coming weeks, months and years so that Wakefield can have the bustling market place it deserves.

BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration proved to be a real hit with shoppers. He cut the green and purple ribbon to declare the food hall officially open and got to taste the food on offer at the various stalls as he met with traders and customers.

Chef, Adam Taylor, from city centre restaurant Qubana, gave a mouth-watering cookery presentation at the demonstration station and served up a delicious Louisianan dish, Jambalaya.

No descriptionA fishmonger, butcher, baker, cheesemonger and greengrocer will be trading in the new food hall. There will also be a stall selling African specialities, an egg barrow, a cafe and Halal takeaway offering sandwiches, paninis, pasta and curries.

Central to the food hall, which is located next to the indoor market on Union Street, is a state-of-the-art demonstration station (see 'Related Links').

Complete with microphones and television screens the station allows for full cookery demonstrations to a sizable audience. There will be opportunities to sample all kinds of food during opening day

A whole programme of events, focusing on healthy eating, family meals and nutrition, are planned for the coming months.
