As part of this effort we are holding regular meetings with traders across the district and listening to what you want.

You said that work to repair the new paved floor at Wakefield Open Market should not go ahead in the autumn – it should be delayed until January to avoid causing disruption during the Christmas shopping period.

We listened and work will be carried out next year by the original contractors Shepherd Construction and will be directed and supervised by Wakefield Council highways inspectors. The indoor market, the food hall and the open market will continue to trade normally during this period and access to the markets and bus station will be maintained at all times during opening hours.

You said Castleford roof needs looking at. An initial investigation could not identify the leaks so we arranged for a full roof survey. Cameras were put down the fall pipes to identify any blockages.

We will receive the full survey report shortly and are doing everything we can to try and remedy the current problem.

Traders in Wakefield asked the Council to do more to promote where the new market hall is located, especially in view of the major regeneration work going on in the city which sometimes makes it difficult to get around.

One of the projects currently taking place is the transformation of the Bull Ring and traders suggested that we use one of the hoardings around the works to actively promote Wakefield Market.

We have acted on this suggestion and the striking sign pictured here was put into place at the end of October.
