Applying for a car boot sale

Along with the application form you will need to provide the following as required by the provisions of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. Failure to do so may result in a prosecution by the Council:

  • Plan of the site
  • Public liability insurance certificate - minimum £5 Million
  • Approval for use of land - confirmation of the land owner's approval for the use of the land

You are advised to read the Car Boot Regulations document (see 'Downloads').

Apply to authorise a car boot sale or other occasional market

  • complete the Car Boot Application Form (see 'Downloads') 
    Please return the completed application form to the Markets and Major Events team either by post or in person to Markets and Major Events, Room 27, Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield WF1 2HQ.

    or

  • apply online via the UK Welcomes website

Applications for a car boot sale must be made no later than six weeks before the date of the event.

If you have any queries in relation to completing the form then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Duration of the licence

The Car Boot licence will be valid only for the date of the event.

Fee

The fee for a car boot sale is £53.55

Considering your application

It is important to understand that completion of this form does not commit the Council to approve any Car Boot Sale or Table Top Sale or remove the requirement for any other relevant approval to be obtained.
