Can't get to your local branch? Then use the library that comes to you!
There are two mobile libraries covering Wakefield District.
They visit over 300 sites each month and each carries up to 4000 books.
One vehicle is like a
small branch library on wheels and has books for everyone, including a selection for children of all ages. This vehicle goes to villages and large housing estates. Two Internet-enabled computers and a printer are also available so that you can surf the web! It also has a collection of DVDs, Videos and Talking Books.
The other vehicle is designated for the elderly with lots of large print books, and some talking books too. This vehicle visits sheltered complexes, and areas of housing with a high concentration of elderly residents. Residential homes can be supplied with a collection of books, to be exchanged on the next visit. Both vehicles have a wheelchair lift.
Joining is simple: just show one proof of ID (either showing your signature or your name and address) and you can take books straight away.
You can keep the books you borrow for up to four weeks and if you don't see the title or subject you want then we may be able to get it for you
We make every effort to keep to our regular timetable, but sometimes vehicle breakdown ,or the weather, defeats us. On these rare occasions we try to let you know and, of course, your books are renewed automatically.
Our Mobile Libraries are your link to the rest of the services we offer - if you have a query just ask the staff. If we can't answer it there and then we will try to find out for the next visit.
If you want the Mobile Library to make a regular stop at a new location please contact us - our mobiles are flexible and designed to respond to your needs. Where demand meets our criteria we will satisfy it if we can.
For further information on the exact times and locations of each stop, or for any query you have about the Mobile Library Service please contact us by following the link in the right-hand menu.
