More about Book Chains

How does a Book Chain work?

You choose and read a library book - anything you like. Then, you write a few words on a comments sheet to describe the book and say what you thought about it. Take the book back to the library and collect a book chosen by someone else and do the same again.

The library staff organise the exchanges so you remain anonymous to each member of the book chain.

How long does it last?

Each chain lasts typically about three months but there isn't really a set time limit.  You will probably read two or three books other than your own choice in that time.

What do I do if I don't like a book?

Write down your comments, take it back to the library and try another.

Do I get to see what other people have been reading?

Yes. At the end of each chain, comments are displayed in the library and on the Library website by following the Book Chain link.

How do I join a Book Chain?

There is currently a Book Chain running at Drury Lane Library, Wakefield. You could also ask in one of the libraries across the District where staff will be pleased to help you. Alternatively you can contact us using the link in 'Also in'
