Events

Many of our libraries will be holding events throughout the year for the National Year of Reading 2008. Authors will be coming to talk about their books. Children's activities will be taking place. Just some of the events are mentioned below. You will find all our events in 'Related Links' under 'Wakefield Events'.

Discover Your Family and Local History
beginning Your Family History sessions will be held at Altofts Library and Pontefract Library - booking is essential.
South Elmsall Library will be illustrating "Old South Elmsall" with a display of photographs and historic maps and on Friday 24th October (10.00am until noon) there will be a drop in Local History session with Bob Hayhurst.
Find out about www.twixtairenadcalder.org.uk an online archive of photographs of the Wakefield District and the huge online Family History resource "Ancestry" at a coffee morning in Normanton Library on Monday 20th October from 10.30am until 1.00pm.

Book Launch
Drury Lane Library will be hosting a launch of Kate Taylor's latest book "The making of Wakefield 1801-1900" published by Pen and Sword. The award winning historian has researched and written a number of books about the city and surrounding area. Kate will be signing copies of her book at Drury Lane Library on Thursday 23rd October 2.00pm until 4.00pm.

Free microfiction workshop at Hemsworth Library
What is microfiction? This creative writing workshop will introduce you to writing small, self contained stories within a limited word count. Leave with a complete piece, or maybe five! This is a workshop with Emma Hardy, a Manchester based writer and Creative Writing tutor, who also teaches at the University of Salford. It will be held on Monday 20th October 1.30pm until 4.30pm. Places are limited to 15 people. This free event is for adults aged 16+. Tickets are available fomr the library or telephone 01977 722270.
