The latest stage (Stage 3) of the library review - the public consultation on the proposed model of service - closed on Friday 2 December 2012, and has gone really well.
During the 12 week consultation period over 2000 questionnaires were completed in libraries and online, 1000 face to face interviews were conducted with residents across the district and public focus groups were held in each of the seven areas of the district.
A broad indication of the timeline and the activities now planned following the consultation period are indicated below.
December 2011 – February 2012
- Analysis of consultation results from:
- Self-selection survey
- Statistically robust sample survey
- Public focus groups
- Support information and activities for community groups and organisations to aid the development/finalisation of their proposals for satellite provision
- Continue work with strategic partners and potential partners to develop cross-working opportunities
- Planning for the progression of key general service improvements as identified through the consultation process
February – May 2012
- Detailed exploration and assessment of community/organisation led proposals for satellite provision
- Development of final draft proposals based on the findings of the public consultation
- Detailed consultation with the Council’s Human Resources, Finance and Legal departments, and the union to complete critical checks and balances on the final proposals and amend to ensure final proposals are both viable and sustainable
- Continued progression of key general service improvements as identified through the consultation process
June 2012
- Production of final report to Cabinet
- Continued progression of key general service improvements as identified through the consultation process.
July 2012
- Submission of final report for consideration by Cabinet, to include recommendations on the future of the library service
August 2012 onwards
- Phased implementation of any agreed proposals (pending Cabinet approval)
