More information about using Libraries Online
To use the Library Catalogue
Both Library members and non-Library members are free to search the Library catalogue – this service is open to everyone. For hints and tips download the document titled ‘Hints and Tips for using the Library Catalogue’.
To reserve, renew and check due dates of Library items
To make full use of the range of services offered by Libraries Online you will need to be a Library member. For reserving, renewing and checking due dates on items you will need a borrower number (you'll find this on your library card) and a PIN.
If you don't have a PIN please visit your local library and ask for one. For security reasons you must collect your PIN in person from a Library. The Library will not issue your PIN to anybody else.
To receive email notifications of overdues and requests available
Register online to receive overdue and item available notices by email ... just check the box in 'Personal Details' or call into a branch to request the service.
To join the Library Online
For adults:
If you register to join the Library online you will receive a temporary borrower number and PIN. You can start reserving items straightaway from the Online Catalogue but will not be able to borrow items until you have provided proof of your address at your designated Library.
For under 16’s:
You will need to have your parents/carers permission to register to join the Library online. If your parents/carer are a member of the Library then you will need to enter their borrower number when prompted. If they are not a member then you will need to enter your parents/carers contact details (e.g.: full name and a permanent address) You can then start reserving items straightaway from the online catalogue but will not be able to borrow items until you have provided proof of your address at your designated Library.
To access the Online Library Resources (such as Encyclopaedia Britannica)
Both members and non-members are welcome to access the Online Library Resources in one of the Districts libraries.
For Library members:
Follow the link to Online Library Resources. Access details are listed under the name of each resource. You can access some of the resources from any computer with Internet access using your Library membership number.
For non-Library members:
You are entitled to use the Online Library Resources in the library for reference purposes. Please ask at the library counter if you would like to use the Online Resources – staff will be pleased to assist you.
