Cultural Services Acceptable Use Policy: Computer Internet Use / Adult

Wakefield Libraries and Information Services provides access to the internet and other information technology, to support educational, recreational and cultural needs of the community. This is in response to advances in technology, and the changing needs of the local community.

Wakefield Libraries and Information services will not be liable for any injury, loss or damage to users and personal property e.g. credit cards; which may arise directly or indirectly from any use of the desktop, internet facilities, use of email, or from other users unauthorized use of the computer facilities. Wakefield Libraries and Information Services accept no responsibility for the quality, accuracy or availability of information accessed through the internet.  

  • I must register for computer internet use by showing 1 form of ID (e.g. passport, driving licence, ID card etc)
  • I understand there is no charge to use the internet, but that there may be other charges i.e. printing (please ask staff for details)
  • I can book a computer internet session by phone or at the library
  • I understand that subject to availability some computers may be available for unbooked use
  • I understand that some level of filtering for internet access is provided
  • I will take responsibility for emails I send and for contacts that I make resulting from an email received
  • Any messages I send will not contain abusive language, cause offense or promote or encourage violence.
  • I must not access, transmit or download offensive or controversial web sites which contain sexist, racist, pornographic or abusive material
  • I must not access, transmit or download web sites which promote or encourage violence, or enable access to information for devices which may be used for violence.
  • I will respect copyright of materials and any intellectual property rights
  • I will not attempt to make unauthorized access to other computers or networks

I understand that if I break any of the listed conditions regarding computer internet use, I may be banned for up to 3 years from using any computer facilities at any libraries within the Wakefield District

All Internet access is filtered and Wakefield Council reserve the right to block any websites deemed unacceptable or containing material inappropriate to be accessed in a public place.

All material transmitted over the internet is subject to legislation under the Obscene Publications Act (1984) and the Telecommunications Act (1984). It is an offence for transmission of any message or any other material that is grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or threatening

You are responsible for emails sent or received, and any messages sent must not contain abusive language, cause offence or promote or encourage violence

All Internet usage will be monitored and may be tracked to an individual user.
