Renewing library items

You can renew items up to three times. After that, any further renewals are at the discretion of the library staff. This is to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance to loan popular items.

DVD and CD renewals will be charged at the loan fee appropriate to the item.

If an item has been reserved by another borrower then you cannot renew the item.

There are three ways to renew your library items:

In person

You can renew items in person at any branch. You will need to show staff your library membership card if you do not have the items with you.

By telephone

You can renew items by telephone at any library. You will need to tell staff you borrower number. See 'Related Links' to find out the phone number for any library across the district.

By using Wakefield Libraries Online Catalogue

You can renew items online using our online catalogue service. You will need to have you library borrower number and PIN number to renew items online. If you do not have a Library PIN then call into any library across the district where staff will issue you your number - you will need to show staff your library membership card:

  • Go to the Online Library Catalogue (see 'Features')
  • Click on 'Borrower Information'.
  • Enter your library borrower number and PIN and click 'Login'.
  • You will be asked to type in your PIN again to confirm it.
  • Click on 'loans' to display a  list of items on loan.
  • Either select 'renew all' to renew all items or click the 'renew' button to the right of item to renew individual items.
  • If there are any charges to pay (eg: if it is a DVD or CD) then these will be displayed.
  • If you are happy to accept the charges then click the blue renew button. Your item/s will now be renewed and the return date will be displayed.

You are only allowed one 'unseen' renewal. An 'unseen' renewal is when you renew your items by either telephone, by email or by renewing items at a branch without staff seeing the items. After that you would need to produce the loaned items at a library to renew them.
